    TechHaulers NIST Guide

How TechHaulers Keeps Your Data Safe with NIST Standards

At TechHaulers, we don’t just recycle old electronics — we protect your data with military-grade care. Whether it’s a laptop from your home office or a server from your company’s data center, we follow NIST standards to ensure your information is gone for good. And we do it all with a smile, transparency, and a tech platform that keeps you in the loop every step of the way.
Quick Fact:

NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1 is the gold standard for data sanitization. We follow it — every time.

What Is NIST, and Why Does It Matter?

NIST — the National Institute of Standards and Technology — is a U.S. government agency that sets the rules for how data should be securely destroyed. Their guidelines are trusted by the military, government agencies, and top corporations worldwide.

When it comes to data destruction, NIST doesn’t just say “delete it.” They say: “Make sure it’s gone — forever.” That’s why we follow NIST Special Publication 800-88 Revision 1 — the go-to manual for secure data sanitization.

Why TechHaulOS Makes It Easy (and Secure)

Our TechHaulOS platform isn’t just a booking tool — it’s your personal data destruction command center. Here’s how it helps:

Real-time visibility: Watch your devices move through the process — from pickup to shredding — with live updates.

Automated compliance: TechHaulOS auto-logs every NIST-compliant step, so we’re always audit-ready.

Secure access: Only you and your authorized team can view your data destruction records — encrypted and password-protected.

How NIST Defines Data Destruction

NIST outlines three main methods for data destruction:

Method

Best For

How It Works

NIST Recommendation

Clear

Low-risk data (e.g., personal files)

Overwriting data multiple times with random patterns

Recommended for reuse

Purge

Medium to high-risk data (e.g., company records)

Using specialized tools to erase data at the physical level

Required for sensitive data

Destruction

Extremely sensitive data (e.g., government secrets)

Physical shredding, disintegration, or melting

Final step when reuse isn’t an option

At TechHaulers, we use the right method based on your data’s sensitivity — no shortcuts, no guesswork.

Our Commitment to You

We know your data is valuable — not just to you, but to the world. That’s why we go beyond the basics. We don’t just follow NIST standards — we live them. Every device, every day.

Whether you’re a small business owner, a school district, or a Fortune 500 company, we treat your data with the same care we’d want for our own.

How We Follow NIST Standards — Step by Step

1.Secure Pickup & Tracking

When you schedule a pickup through our TechHaulOS platform, we assign a unique tracking ID to your device(s). This ID follows your equipment from pickup to final destruction — like a digital passport.

2. Classification & Risk Assessment

Before any destruction, we assess your device’s data type. Is it personal photos? Financial records? Government files? Based on this, we decide whether to clear, purge, or destroy — all in line with NIST guidelines.

3.Secure Data Sanitation

For devices that can be reused, we use multi-pass overwriting (NIST Clear) or crypto-erasure (NIST Purge). Our tools meet or exceed NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1 standards — verified and logged.

4. Physical Destruction (When Needed)

For high-risk data, we use industrial shredders and pulverizers that reduce devices to particles smaller than 2mm. This is NIST Destruction — no data can be recovered, even by experts.

5.Real-Time Audit Trail via TechHaulOS

Every step is recorded in our proprietary TechHaulOS platform. You get real-time updates, photos of the destruction process, and a full audit trail — all accessible from your dashboard.

6. Certificate of Destruction

After destruction, you receive a digital Certificate of Destruction signed by our team. It includes:

  • Device make/model & serial number

  • Method used (Clear/Purge/Destruction)

  • Timestamp & location of destruction

  • Employee ID who performed the task

  • Verification code for audit purposes

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers.

Q: Do you handle government or HIPAA-compliant data?
A: Yes! HIPAA, FISMA, and other compliance frameworks. Our processes are designed for regulated industries.

Q: Can I see the destruction process in person?
A: Absolutely! We offer on-site shredding events for businesses that want to witness the process firsthand.

Q: What if I change my mind after pickup?
A: No problem. You can pause or cancel anytime — we’ll keep your data secure until you decide.
